A Better Day at Daytona Beach

Still lots of seaweed washed up at the high water mark due to offshore winds and high surf

A Bad Day at the Beach

12/13/2011 - A bad day at Daytona, which is still better than a good day at the office :-)

The post denotes the wreck of the Nathan Cobb, an old wooden paddler.  At a typical low tide there are several feet between the post and water's edge.

High tides and offshore winds have piled up a lot of sea weed on the beach,  The surf is rough and chopped up, not good surfing conditions.

New Bern - Day 5

Last day in New Bern.  We took Scott to the airport in the morning and then drove around a little, saw the Antique place out on 17, pretty interesting.  We went to Suzy and Charlie's for dinner then home to get ready for a full day of travel tomorrow.  Airplane on display at Craven county Jetport.  The cat taking a nap below.

New Bern - Day 4

Today is Thanksgiving (yes I am posting this Blog after the fact, this is an exercise so I will be ready for my Panama trip blog).  Scott and I went out to get a new American flag for Joe and Daena.  The old flag was in pretty bad shape.  We also stopped at the Blue Angles park, Cherry Point is not far from here and The Angles always have one JarHead on the team.  I have included a picture of the burning of the old flag, the Blue Angels plane and the dining room table.

New Bern - Day 3

Today was the day for the Hoey Hoedown.  I was surprised there were not that many people that came, was expecting a larger crowd.  We went to the grocery in the afternoon, not a particularly exciting time.  Scott and I played the guitars later in the evening after everyone went home.

New Bern - Day 2

Went to Franco's for lunch and then to downtown New Bern.  Visited the shops, including the new music (toy store) which was basically a very small music store annex for the parent store in Jacksonville.  Played the electronic drum set.  Cigars on the porch in the evening.  Pictures below, guess this pharmacy has been around for a while, this is where Pepsi was invented.

Travel Blog - Daytona to New Bern, NC - Day 1

We drove from Daytona to New Bern on Day 1, pretty much standard road trip.
I took some extra time because of the 15 minute baked potato and the 20 minutes spent removing the air dam (spoiler) from the car (it was half off and flapping in the wind).
We arrived in New Bern around 1700 or 1800.
This is the view from the back porch, where we had beer and wine right after we arrived in New Bern.
